Overview

Local modulation of signaling and barrier homeostasis.

Functional category

α MSH derived tripeptide (melanocortin fragment)

Nature of activity

Local modulation of signaling and barrier homeostasis.

Mechanism of action

For non experts: KPV is a very small “signal fragment” peptide being studied for inflammation calming biology, especially in gut and skin research contexts. Product descriptions should stick to “investigated for” and avoid medical promises.

In animal models of intestinal inflammation, KPV has been explored for its ability to reduce inflammatory activity and support barrier related outcomes—again, this is preclinical evidence and not equivalent to an approved therapy for inflammatory bowel disease or similar conditions.

KPV (Lys Pro Val) is a tripeptide corresponding to the C terminal sequence of α MSH (alpha melanocyte stimulating hormone). Although α MSH is well known for melanocortin receptor biology, KPV has been studied for anti inflammatory signaling effects that may occur through mechanisms not fully identical to classic melanocortin receptor activation. Research literature discusses KPV related modulation of inflammatory cascades such as NF κB signaling, cytokine responses, and experimental inflammation models.
